If you can jump half a metre high on the Earth, how high could you jump on other objects in the Solar System? Caution: take care when jumping on small bodies - you may never come back down.

Dance of the Sun

The Sun doesn't sit quite at the centre of the solar system. It moves around the barycentre here

Solar flares

The strongest solar flares as measured by the GOES X-ray satellites since 1976. here

Giant stars

Our local star, the Sun, is roughly 1.4 million kilometres across. That's large - 100 times the diameter of Earth - but is tiny compared to many others.

One of the contenders for largest known star is UY Scuti

If placed at the centre of the Solar System it would stretch beyond the orbit of Jupiter.

The local sheet of galaxies

Highly demanding of the imagination.  Coloured balls representing galaxies wizzing round!  Need many more balls. here

The best estimate from a 1999 study set that number at about 125 billion galaxies, and a 2013 study indicated that there are 225 billion galaxies in the observable universe. In 2016, that number was upped to 2 trillion, in large part because a new analysis included all the tiny, fluffy galaxies in the early universe.  here
